ESN Board President:
David Hartnett
Mr. Hartnett has maintained duo careers for more than thirty years: one in law enforcement and the other in the aerospace industry. Mr. Hartnett has worked in the aerospace industry for more than 40 years, specializing in software engineering. He is a Senior Project Engineer, with The Aerospace Corporation. He is currently part of a government team working out of the Los Angeles Air Force Base, task with developing the next generation of Global Positioning System (GPS). His law enforcement career span more than 30 year. As a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. He has worked as a Patrol Deputy, Narcotic Detective, and a member of sheriff Lee Baca Advisory Council / Special Projects. During Mr. Hartnett distinguish career with the Sheriff Deportment, his primary focus was to improve the relationship between the Sheriff Department and the people/communities for which it serves.
Although the differences between these two careers are vast and require different skill sets. Mr. Hartnett belief in diversity and equality, and the issues these institutions have in these areas; has been a driving force for Mr. Hartnett getting involved in the internal workings of the LA County Sheriff Department and The Aerospace Corporation.
At the Aerospace Corporation, Mr. Hartnett was elected as President of the Aerospace Black Caucus (ABC). As President of ABC, he represented all Aerospace African American employees and voiced their concerns to Aerospace leadership. He played a key role in the company hiring more minorities engineers and promoting diversity. He also led the effort to create the “South Bay Aerospace Black Caucus”, an organization dedicated to promoting diversity and good will at Aerospace companies in the South Bay area. The organization consists of representatives from major aerospace companies based in the South (i.e., The Aerospace Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Raytheon Corporation and The Boeing Corporation).
While at the Sheriff Deportment, Mr. Hartnett continued his effort to promote diversity and equality. He was selected as a member of sheriff Lee Baca’s Advisory Council / Special Projects. The Advisory Council / Special Projects was task with providing recommendations to the Sheriff for improving the Sheriff Department. This included recommendations from hiring in support of diversity goals, to recommendations for reducing inmate recidivism.
Fairly new to the Non-profit arena, Mr. Hartnett was selected to the ESN Board of Directors and elected as Co-Chairman of the board because he gets things done. It is believed his knowledge and his ability to apply engineering principles to ESN, would make it a much more efficient foundation.
Mr. Hartnett received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from California State University, Northridge. He initially started his college education at Chapman University. He was part of the first group of students accepted into Chapman School of Engineering. After three years of study at Chapman School of Engineering, Mr. Hartnett transferred to California State University, Northridge and graduated from their more established/respected engineering program.
